Police Certificate (Ont) and Med Exam

I read the guides for this AOS and I didn't see anything listed about this subject...Is the police certificate/s obtained right before the interview? And since he is already in the States, the interview would be at the Norfolk office? (we're in sw Virginia) I'm wondering how much time ahead should we ask for the cert (from Hamilton, Ont) before we go to the interview. I hope we don't have to go to Ont in person to get it.

The other question is, I noticed with the I485 a med exam will be required. Is this done before sending the paperwork out or when requested during the process?

Thanks for the help!

(close to getting everything to send out!!!)

I have same concern about these two questions.

1. Do we have to submit police certificate from Canada when we apply AOS/EDA(adjsut status)? If does, is this based on name or fingerprint? I know we have to do fingerprint in US?

2. Should we submit copy of copy of "VACCINATION DOCEMENTATION MEDICAL WORKSHEET TWO" which was done in Canada for K1 visa? not entire copy of medical exam for K1 vsia. How about the case number because there is case number on it for applingt K 1 visa.

Just want to make sure to get everything before leave Canada

I am confused about the Police Certificate too. I was told a few months ago by an Immigration Attorney I chatted with to get it done because it takes several weeks to process. I went to the RCMP, they gave me my background check right away, took my fingerprints. I had to send my prints to Ottawa to go through the Data Base and it took about a month to get back the results. I'm not sure if I need it or can use it. Until I joined this board, I was getting different and conflicting advice from anyone I talked to.

Just incase he does have to come to Ontario ... I'm from Hamilton, Ontario as well ... I called about getting a police check and the only station that does it is on King William Street ... $40.00 fee and the wait 5 weeks I believe. ... if they need a rcmp search, it can be done digitally from a commisionaire electronically in the area on York St. (905)527-2775 ... I'm waiting for them to get back to me regarding the cost and timeframe

I belive the wait for the Commisionaires isnt that long, a few days, others have posted about it,wish the VJ search engine was a bit better.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

OK, I talked to someone at the above # and all he could say is that it wouldn't take long to get the police cert in person. I mentioned that whatever we had to do, it needed to be from here as he couldn't go back to CA until he has AP or is approved. The only thing I can think of doing is getting fingerprinted here in VA and sending it to Ottowa which will take a month or so. Is that what VJers are doing while obtaining AOS??

Griffon, are you just doing AOS or was the entrance to the USA on a K1/K3/something else? AFAIK, you do not need a Canadian police certificate if you are doing AOS from entering as a tourist/visitor. You will have to get the medical done by a designated US Civil Surgeon.

Hi, Canuck Carrie!

Yes, we're doing the AOS from entering as a visitor. And thanks for the clarification about whether we need the police certificate. About the medical exam...I located a local Dr who is a designated Civil Surgeon. I was reading the checklist for AOS and #13 mentions the medical exam. Is the exam done now and sent with the I485 package? That's what I was confused about...when the exam is done and the paperwork sent...I am sure this must have been asked before but after all the reading online and the forms I printed out, I can't seem to find that answer.

Thanks,

Dawn

The guides here on VJ indicate that a medical exam must be submitted with the I485.
