Hi VJ members! I would like to ask a few questions about ROM.

1) I have applied my AOS already, Got my AP/EAD card under my married name, No GC yet.

2) My passport will be expired on November 2013, and I am flying home to the philippines on October.

Since I can see that the ROM thing is toxic at the very least, I was planning to just renew my passport under my maiden name, bring over my Marriage Certificate when I travel and AP card.

what you guys think? Will I have problems in my POE or when I come home? thank you for the opinions idea9dv.gif

Just my opinion, as long as your name on the plane tickets matches your passport/EAD/AP there will not be a problem. Name changes in the US are very common - just make sure all the information matches... Best wish!

I'm not sure what you mean about the report of marriage being toxic. It was very easy when my wife and I did it last year. We shortly followed it up with a renewal of her passport in her married name. The ROM and new passport can be completed at the same time, but Philippine Family Law allows you to continue to use your maiden name as you legal name if you wish.

Make sure your tickets are booked in your maiden name to match your passport. If your green card or AP is in your married name, make sure to bring a copy of your marriage certificate with you.

My wife did the ROM and renewed her passport in her married name very easily during a consulate outreach event here. Not sure what you mean by toxic.

But you should not have any issues with your passport being in your maiden name as long as you carry a copy of the marriage certificate.

+1 Same here. Was a little nervous about sending original passport thru the mail, but all ended well. Even had Pinoy food at the outreach, so I ate me some pancit bihon and got my marriage reported!! Toxic? All the agents were Filipinos who seemed happy for us. About as toxic as a bottle of spring water.

Another member asked me for a guide on our ROM process. Didn't have one, just followed the instructions here:

http://www.philippinessanfrancisco.org/news/3415/591/CONSULAR-OUTREACH-IN-SEATTLE-WA-ON-AUGUST-9-11-2013/d,phildet/

Bear in mind, this is the consulate for OUR jurisdiction, yours may be slightly different, but I suspect not. Different consulates have different outreach programs. We got lucky and had one in our hometown, which made it easy.

Having said that, I would prefer to do it all in the PI; it's cheaper and faster. But in our case, her passport expired before we were going back, so we did it locally.

Took us 5 weeks to get my wife's. But that was through the Chicago consulate.

Yes it does seem a bit weird they need 4 copies of everything to report the marriage. I guess they don't have a photocopier at the consulates.

Funny thing is, your copy of the report of marriage abroad will be one of those copies with some notes on it and a rubber stamp. Very disappointing huh.png
