Hello all! I've read numerous threads on this forum prior to making this one, but this is my first formal post. I'd like to begin by saying that this forum has been endlessly and continuously helpful in making me understand the process of the K-1 visa. That being said, I have some questions specific to the case of myself (a U.S. citizen) and my Lebanese fiancee. Thank you all for any answers in advance!

1. I am currently in Lebanon alongside my fiancee. We went to the US embassy in Beirut yesterday and acquired her package with forms to be filled out including DS-156 (filled online), DS-156K, etc. Is it okay for me to fill these forms out for her with her next to me (and me explaining everything), and then have her sign? The English used is difficult for her to understand.

2. The package requests three documents whose names in Arabic we're having trouble identifying: civil record, family extract, police certificate. Does anyone know the names of these documents in Arabic?

3. I am currently a full-time student and do not have any income. I understand that a sponsor fills out the affidavit of support, is that correct? Should I include with my fiancee's package that she takes to the interview a letter written and signed by me that explains my circumstances and the sponsor's relationship to me?

Thank you again! And sorry for the long post. I look forward to reading your responses!

I apologize for the double post, but I have one additional question:

4. On form DS-156, item #7, the form requests the first and middle name of the beneficiary as depicted on the passport. However, on Lebanese passports, no middle name is mentioned. Should I omit my fiancee's middle name, despite having written it on multiple occasions on other forms?

Thank you so much again!

Does she actually have a middle name? I think the passport name is better, because the visa name needs to match the passport name.

Here is some information about docs in Lebanon - maybe that can help you narrow down what the words are for them http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9642#docs

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thank you for your response!

In Lebanon, the name of the father is treated as the middle name on nearly all documents. The only document I've seen in Lebanon where the name of the father wasn't mentioned is the passport itself, but that makes me feel as though I should omit her father's name in filling out DS-156, since they're asking for what's written on the passport. If anyone could reassure me, that'd be great.

Hey! I applied for a k1 visa for my fiance in lebanon also! We got our noa2 about a 2 days ago and im already preparing all his papers for him even though im far away! I could try helping out a little bit maybe we could get helpful information from eachother because I dont see many people here who applied for a fiance from lebanon.

1. Yes you can! Anyone can fill in the form but make sure it will be signed by her and not you.

2. Family Extrct - " ekhraj ed 3a2eleh - اخراج اد عايله

Civil record - sejel 3adleh - سجل عدله

And police certificate is if she was living in another country and she would get a different civil recoed from there.

3. You should be above the poverty line for them to approve her visa! My parents will be the affidavit of support and they will fill in the form for me.

4. I think her fathers name would be the middle name thats how it will.mostly work out I guess!!

I hope that I helped you out cause my fiance will b3 coming here soon also !! :)

Thank you so much! Your post was indeed very helpful. We'll get to collecting those documents right away then.

Does anyone else have any input on the issue of filling out my fiancee's name as it appears in the passport? Again, form DS-156 requests in item #7 that I type my fiancee's first and middle names as they appear on the passport. However, on Lebanese passports, no middle name is present. Should I include her middle name anyway (as I have in filling out all other forms during this process)?

Thank you!
