Hello,

While I am googling for some answers for my N400 case, I found this forum and it seems like pretty helpful to me so I decided to ask for your kind help.

I filed my N400 to Phoenix, AZ and my local office is San Jose, CA. After I took my fingerprint, I haven't heard back anything from USCIS for almost 2 months. I tried to call USCIS but the customer service couldn't tell me more detail about my case's status. I also scheduled an InfoPass with San Jose office, and the lady there told me my file was still with NBC and NBC has to schedule interview for me then transfer my file to the local office.

Since I am in my last trimester pregnancy, and when the 5 months regular processing time approaches, I will be due. So I called and asked for expedited my case.

Today I received an email from USCIS:

"The status of this service request is:

Systems show that your application is currently pending an Interview date with your local USCIS Field Office. Should you not be contacted by your local USCIS Field Office within 90 days of this notice, please call the National Customer Service Center at the phone number listed below.

Due to the high volume of expedite requests for this case type, we are strictly enforcing the criteria that has been set for these expedite requests. While your situation appears serious, you have not provided evidence of an extreme emergent need."

It got me really confused. Does the statement of "pending an interview date with you local office" mean I am now inline for interview? And it seems like the local office should contact me for further action, but why the lady at San Jose office told me that my case was with NBC and local office doesn't schedule interview?

I really appreciate you guys' advice and help!!

You will be scheduled for an interview shortly.

Pregnancy, unless it is high-risk (and the life of the child or mother are imperiled) is not a valid reason for an expedite (otherwise everyone would be doing it).

San Jose is currently taking approximately 5 months to process N-400 applications.

You can check my timeline for more details, but we filed in San Jose and had fingerprints done shortly after. It took around 2 months after fingerprints to receive the in-line for interview notice. The interview was right after that, and the oath very soon after the interview. The website says that they are taking 5 months, but I have found it to be faster. I would anticipate that you will have your interview notice in the next couple of weeks. Have you signed up for online alerts or text messages? That way you can at least see any progress on your case even before something arrives in the mail. I was getting concerned around the 2 month mark, but we were notified right about that same time. Good luck! We found the USCIS people to be very nice at the interview and the process very easy.

Thanks Hypnos for your help. I was confused by the San Jose field officer because she said the local office doesn't schedule interview. I hope the interview will be scheduled shortly because waiting really kills me.

Hi Menina,

Thanks for sharing your own timeline. I saw some other people's cases move really fast after taking fingerprint, and mine is still "initial review", this really upsets me a lot! It's almost 2 months since I took my fingerprint, and I do hope I can hear something back soon!
