Maybe someone can give me some advice but I have developed feelings for a guy I met online in January of 2013 and I even purchased a ticket to visit him in Jamaica for a couple of days. As with any long distance relationship a person is quite naturally a little scared because there are so many horror stories when dating a guy you met on line let alone who lives in Jamaica. Yes we have exchanged photos of each other and we talk on the phone everyday. I'm even cool with his mom who also lives in the states. He works as a tour guide at the airport but recently his hours got cut and I've noticed he has been somewhat depressed and a lil distant as a result. I'm having second thoughts about going but he wants me to still come.

Can you ladies and gents pls give me some advice on this matter...Thanks

P.S me and this guy are 37 yrs old

Go. Be careful, but don't stop yourself.

When I met my now-fiance for the first time, I flew over to his country, too. We met in London, though (he lives by Manchester), and stayed in separate hotels until we developed a more natural physical relationship. I brought a friend with me, someone who'd wanted to go to the UK but didn't mind being by himself, so that me and my SO could have some time together... go on a few dates, things like that.

This seemed to work really well. I wasn't really worried about anything funny happening, but it did take the pressure off of both of us.

(Regarding the "natural physical relationship" thing... because you've spent so much time getting to know this person mentally and emotionally, it's easy to forget that you know little about each other physically. We're so used to "normal" relationships which develop mentally, emotionally, and physically all at the same time. When you meet for the first time, it can feel awkward and inadequate because you feel like the physical aspect should just, I don't know, fall into place. So, if you choose to go, and that happens, just be patient with yourself, and with him. It'll pass.)

If worse comes to worse and things don't work out... hey, at least you got a good vacation out of it, right ;)

Follow your heart, but keep in mind your head may have good advice.

And if he's Jamaican, it can't hurt to learn a bit about cricket. ;)

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
