My husband loves the crumbly fudge he gets at home, and I want to give him as much "home" as I can when he moves here, so today I tried my hand at making a batch. I've never made regular fudge before, but this came out just right! I'm ridiculously pleased, haha. Is the crumbly texture for fudge common across the UK? I'd never seen it in the US before, but I'll be bringing this into work tomorrow so my coworkers can enjoy my first practice run smile.png

To answer the question - yes, it is.

Now quit posting pictures, you're making me drool. :P

Oh yeah. That's common. Plus, you can get it in lots and lots of different flavours. I actually prefer mine slightly more soft than completely crumbly, but again, there's loads of variance there too.

I'm from Cornwall, and most of the local sweet shops would do a dozen different types (google "Cornish Fudge").

You can make it at home if you can get some good cream for the base. Clotted cream is best for a good rich fudge, but clotted cream is also somewhat hard to get in the UK (this is my favourite brand, again, local to my original UK area): http://www.roddas.co.uk/recipes/clotted-cream-fudge

I'll take drooling as a sign I made it right! happy.png

The recipe is exceedingly simple: http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/513459

This is a basic vanilla fudge, but now I'm eager to try out some different flavors. I LOVE clotted cream fudge, but it's impossible to get proper clotted cream here :( I did find some but it was nothing like what I had in the UK. My husband also turned up his nose at the glass jar it came in ;) It's hard to get perishable imports, but I might keep trying in the case of clotted cream. I know he'll miss cream teas a lot too!

If you can get full fat milk, you could also try making your own clotted cream. :)

I thought I saw a recipe for that floating around here somewhere! I think it'll still be a bit different, since the dairy from his area is just richer than what I would come by in a regular shop here. He's always disturbed by the shelf life on our ultra-processed milk. But I've looked into some local dairies that do home delivery, and maybe their milk could come close :) It's worth a try!

Chocolate is my weakness too, but fudge is a nice treat to be able to make at home :D It's just one of the items on my "learn to do" list. Homemade bread and curry are on there too! It'll help keep me busy and out of trouble while I wait for NOA2, anyway happy.png
