A US citizen filing for a child, I130

My fiance is currently a US citizen, we have known each other for long but we were just friends first, then he got married and came to US (the wife was not neither a permanent resident nor a citizen). Then he came back to Ethiopia for a visit after few yrs and the relationship turned out and I find out that I was pregnant after he came back to US. Then we decided to keep the child and his relationship as we since it was not fair. He has been supporting me both emotionally and financially to raise the kid (since I got pregnant, which is 2009). I came to US as F1 Student last yr, currently he is divorced since he and his wife were no longer connected to each other. So, we have come to the decision that we should get married and raise the child together, since we both love each other. But just before he got divorced he filed for our son, which is in Jan 2013 and he got his divorce completed in May 2013. The case to our son has not been moved an inch, we called to UNCIS and they told us it is still in field office and the process might take 6 months and now it is more than 6 months. They haven't requested us for the DNA yet. The only thing we have received from them is the letter of acceptance only. Is there any one who can help me why the process is taking long time (we have filed for the Chicago center). And one more thing my fiance is in Virginia and I am in Tennessee (at a university), We are planning to get married soon (probably in September), can we file for my case while we live apart even if the case sounds convincing (I mean he is already established there and I am here until I finish my study)?

What form (I-130?) did he file for you child? Are you and the child in the US now? With what visa did you and the child enter the US with?
