Hi

Sorry, I know there are a few examples of this type of question, but I'd really appreciate some advise given these specific circumstances...

My friend is a resident, with Green Card, currently a Russian citizen, looking to apply for US citizenship under the 5 year rule which will be in September. She recently divorced from her American Citizen husband, he previously handled all matters realting to legal, tax, money etc etc.

She has just realised, by starting to look at citizenship application, that she should have notified of her change of address WRT her green card. Thing is, she has moved something like 5 times since she originally got residency, but has never notified. Now, I see that its highly unlikely she would be prosecuted or deported or whatever for this, certainly there was no intention of avoiding the government, and she has always notified other agencies such as IRS and DMV etc.

She's applied for a vistor visa for a 10 day trip to the UK, as a tourist, and was a little concerned she might not be let back in... although I really dont think that will be a problem.

BUT - my question really is this. Clearly she needs to notify now of her current address. How should she do that? Should she provide her original address and ignore the intermediate ones, and provide her current one, or provide a letter detailing all her moves over the last 4.5 years? Would she be best to wait til her UK visit is over (visa application still in progress)?

Thanks in advance.

Have her go here and complete the AR-11 on-line change of address form. I would only worry about the most recent address. There is a confirmation page that comes up, I would print that out for her records. As she puts in her other addresses where she has lived for the past 5 years, I am sure the USCIS may notice that she did not complete a change of address. It is not a big deal and once she becomes a USC sh does not have to worry about htis any more.

Many thanks for your reply, Dave. Just to be clear, you are suggesting she just enters her last address on the online form? This wont match the 'current' address that they may have on record. You dont think that will raise any alarm bells that might require explanation?

Thanks again.

You have to list all addresses lived at on the next few round of forms with dates, so I would put the current address on the form with the last address she lived at. It may not match up, but at least when she completes the next form for the next stage her previous address and current address will match. It may cause a question of why did you not inform us of you last X number of address changes. You would be amazed at how many people go thru this process and do not read all the requirements especially about having to change an address. I will point out that not telling them about the old addresses is minor complared to supplying them with false information.

So I would put her current address on the AR-11 form and I would put her previous address she actually lived at as her previous address.

Good luck,

Dave
