B2 tourist visa for Filipino

Hello VJ readers

I meet a girl in the philipeans and invited her to the US and her visa was denied. I understand how hard it is for Filipinos to get tourist visa. I heard a lot of US citizens get letters from their congressman to help the visitor get their visa. I've heard they help and they don't help. If possible I like to hear my fellow VJ readers how they made out with letters from their congressman. Mine is from NJ.

Thanks

congressional letters to help a foreign national get a visa??? haven't seen it, nor do I believe you could get one

the applicant is solely responsible on their own merits to prove they will return to their home country

Agree with above post.... Congressional letter is useless and would be a waste of time. Applicant has to do all the 'proving' and it is VERY difficult to prove for most Filipinos.

Do what most of us ended up doing, save some money, take some time off and go to the Philippines yourself. Its a beautiful country and you'll have a great time!

Highly unlikely to gain approval for tourist Visa for a Filipino UNLESS she/he has traveled outside her/his country to other countries requiring Visas and they did not overstay. My ex GF came back with me to USA for two week vacation back in 2006. However she had traveled to the UK and S. Africa on Visas and I was an Expat under contract working in the RP. Therefore they knew I was returning and she would be as well based on her past. She obtained a 6 month single entry. Once again, for most it is not likely to receive a tourist visa. We were lucky based on our personal and work circumstances. One thing they told her at interview and at POE was "do not get married" therefore they believe most do get married. To date I heard that my ex met an American and obtained a 10 year multiple entry visa. I am happy for her as she is a good person. Sooooo it can be done. But if you have been denied then chances of over-turning the denial is slim. Keep in mind at one time, Filipinos were right behind Mexicans on over staying or not leaving the USA when they arrive. Therefore they are highly scrutinized. When I worked in the RP, my USA company petitioned one of my QA Managers to travel to the states for training. 400 million USD company was denied for their request for him... So nothing is perfect in this world. Sorry about your denial.

Also let me add that the Embassy or USICS would deny to protect her from possible being brought to the States for sex trade. Sorry to be blunt but Filipinas, Thais and other Asiana countries had high risk of trafficking both men and women for the sex trade. This as well could be one of the reasons since you are not married and not engaged. Even engaged would most likely not be approved.

If you can't visit her, she'll have to just keep trying.

I applied for a tourist visa 3x (first in 2010, second in 2012 then again 2013). On my last try I got my visa and I got a 10 year multiple entry. I know some people here would say that having multiple applications is more detrimental to their chances but as long as your GF shows progress or changes in circumstances when she applies, her chances might improve.

Thanks everybody. I have visited her 2 times in 2 years and plan on going back in October, if 2nd B2 visa denied with the letter, which I have. I plan on marrying her, but now we are in the process of annulment. I have not mentioned this nor has my GF. But I suspect the USICS assumes this. Between me and this forum i want to keep this legit, and she would go back when her visa expires, and when the annulment is completed than apply for the K1 visa.

And one more thing. When my GF went to the embassy the first time, they never were interested in the paperwork. We had, what we thought were great reasons for her return, job, child, and her annulment process. Financially I'm well off, no millionaire, but have a well paying job and can sponsor her. She was denied of visitor visa, because she felt the interviewer assumed, correctly I was her BF.

Thanks again

I have read that it helps by submitting your documents as attachments with the application

it is highly likely a decision has already been made before she gets there
