Hello,

Thanks everyone for the help I gotten so far!

I am living overseas and will be filing DCF in South Africa.

Part 4 of form I-864 it says: Information on the Sponser:

Would I put my address in South Africa? Or my address in the USA? It's For Mailing Address and Place of Residence.

Does it matter? I would like everything to go to the USA. But, I don't know if it matters if you do DCF.

When we move to the USA I don't want to miss any forms that is why I am worried about the address.

Thank you!!

You should put your address in the USA, unless you have a joint-sponsor, as you need to show domicile if you're the sole financial sponsor. Take a look at this: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3183.html#3 (it just happened to be in my clipboard from a similar query from someone in the UK).

* I-130/CR-1 visa by Direct Consular Filing in London
3rd May 2013 - Married in London

7th May 2013 - I-130 filed
4th June 2013 - NOA2 (approved)
16th July 2013 - Interview (approved)
30th July 2013 - POE San Francisco
29th August 2013 - 2 year green card arrived

* How? Read my DCF London I-130 for CR1/IR1 Spouse Guide

* Removal of Conditions (RoC) via California Service Centre
1st May 2015 - 90 day RoC window opened
6th May 2015 - I-751 filed (delivered 8th May, cheque cashed 18th May)
7th August 2015 - Approved / GC production

27th August 2015 - 10 year green card arrived

* Naturalisation (Citizenship) via Phoenix Lockbox

* San Francisco Field Office:
1st May 2016 - N-400 window opened
20th August 2016 - N-400 filed

26th August 2016 - NOA1
13th September 2016 - Biometrics

We filed DCF in Mexico and I put my Mexican address as my residence but my US address as my mailing address as well as the US as my country of domicile. In order to file DCF here, I needed to demonstrate that I am a resident of Mexico and am residing here with my husband, so that's why Mexico is my place of residence. But, in order to sponsor him, I needed to demonstrate that I have maintained domicile in the US so included evidence showing I am still domiciled in the US. Good luck!!

August 2008 - met when we were both living in England

February 2009 - began dating

May 28, 2011 - got engaged

August 5, 2011 - got married (in England)

September 29, 2011 - moved to Mexico

VISA PROCESS:

December 3, 2012 - sent I-130 to Mexico City (DCF)

December 6, 2012 - I-130 approved

December 14, 2012 - NVC case number assigned and instruction letter sent from Juarez Consulate but we NEVER received it

March 4, 2013 - called to check about our case and received our NVC case number and Invoice number

March 9, 2013 - submitted DS-260 online

April 17, 2013 - interview date - visa approved!!!

July 11, 2013 - POE: entered US through Dallas, TX

July 22, 2013 - Social Security Card delivered

August 22, 2013 - Green Card delivered

Hi jenyadenise,

I might do that. Will contact the Embassy in South Africa and see what they say. I know each country has their own DCF rules, so I am confused on what S.A. wants.

You're right... the process in every country is different... Hope that the embassy can give you clear guidance or that a VJer who has done DCF in SA can provide some insight. Best wishes!

I put my Indian address (Filed DCF in india) in the I-864, along with documents to prove "intent to re establish domicile in the US". The joint sponsor put their US address and details. Since we're filing DCF we have to be abroad, and it is not necessary to be domiciled in the US to file the I 864 IF you can prove that you intend to establish domicile in the US.

Filed for DCF for my husband in New Delhi, India

Timeline:

29-06-2012 - Got Married in Bangalore, India

04-04-2013 - Filed the I-130 in person in New Delhi

No NOA1, NOA2, Packet3, Packet4

26-04-2012 - Interview Letter sent out

09-05-2012 - Interview letter received

24-05-2012 - Interview Date

Interview Result - Approved

Filing to interview date = 50 days!

Thanks Janani,

I guess I am always wondering how they will know what address to send the Green Card too? Is there a form where I can put my adress so I can be sure it arrives in the mail?

Thanks. We're pretty shocked too! I'm in a constant state of worry about our upcoming interview now, though. I will be so glad when it's done and I can stop stressing.

Good luck!

I was the one on lost_at_sea's timeline with the similar question :)

Has my interview yesterday, and on my wife's I-864 (she's the USC), we put residence and domicile in the UK (that's where we live now), and mailing address her parents in the US - just to prove that she kept an address in the US.

We had a joint sponsor, form I-864A, who lives in the US and they are sending the GC over to that address.
