The USEM instruction letter found on the embassy website for K1 interview instructions asks for a NBI clearance. Okay, no problem. Then they go on to request a official letter of explanatio if you have no arraest record or no pending cases. Are they serious?? Please explain why you have nev been arrested. Haha.

Is this actually required for a clear NBI report? Can anyone shed some light on this? What do you do? Ask the NBI for this letter of explanation when you request your NBI clearance?

What the NBI should read is - NO RECORD ON FILE. If it reads "NO CRIMINAL RECORD OR NO pending case", then the embassy wants to know WHAT is shown on your record.... as there IS something there! So they want NBI to send an explanation letter revealing what is on your record.

g. NBI CLEARANCE (Green Form). Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used, including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of "No criminal record" or "No pending case". For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.

I just asked my fiance what it says on hers. It says "NO CRIMINAL RECORD FOUND". So does she need to get thie letter of explanation? If so, how does she go about doing that?
