so, as you know, Charles and I got married yesterday  . Yes, I'm on VJ because I have insomnia and we have a long journey ahead of us, I am in charge to find out what's the next step.

I didn't ask for my ssn yet and we want to start our AOS. What is the first step? I have no idea what to do next.

Any help is welcome.

hugs to all (F)

Congratulations! and welcome to VJ! It is good that you are in charge, but it would be better it this would be a shared responsibility as you go all through the process. VJ can guide you with the filing of the AOS. AS what others have said, it is time for reading and understanding. Charles should do the readings too. You still have to wait for a copy of your marriage certificate as this is the copy you would need to get your State ID with your married name and yes your SSN. It is also one of the documents required for the filing of AOS.

If you live near a USCIS district office, I suggest that you make an infopass by going to the USCIS website. You can get a packet for AOS and EAD there in the USCIS office. It saves you the download and the clerk in charge would give you a checklist. If not, then you can download the forms for AOS and EAD ( employment authorization document) from the VJ site or USCIS site.

Good luck! and stay together for better or for worse!Don't get lost, lead each other! and have lots of patience for the AOS.

Jan

In addition to the guides, read the instructions on the forms that you have to do.

I suggest not waiting long to get the vaccination supplement done. We are still struggling with this. The only thing holding us up.

We called the civil surgeons today from PR and one tried to insist on me getting a new medical and the other said it'd be 15 dollars to get the supplement vaccination sheet. YAY! :D

Yeah, Joel and I had this same thing happen. When I told them his medical was just a few months old and that USCIS didn't require a NEW one, she got real huffy with me and said (verbatim) "We can do whatever we want, this is OUR office". Their medical would have been $300. We found a CS who would do the vacc sup, cost us $50 because Joel needed an updated Tetanus shot. Pays to shop around. ;)
