Good point Jenn and I'll agree to that. :)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

I find this all so interesting. Honestly, I struggled when ranking Marion and Little John. I do see Marion's actions as immoral, however, they were mitigated by her intentions and the fact that she was "forced" into it. I don't see John's opportunism as immoral, which is why I ended up ranking him above Marion.

Robin Hood being the worst was a no-brainer for me, and I can't be convinced that he's not the worst of the bunch.

Robin is an ungrateful douche and I agree he's the worst. But by what standards were Marian's actions immoral? Yes there is a rule that says "don't cheat" but 1. since it was quasi-rape, it's not exactly cheating and 2. I feel like that rule goes out the window when someone's life is on the line. I see it as completely irrelevant and inapplicable to the situation.

Actually I agree with Steven on this.

And I don't see how you can call it rape if you agree to it. To me, rape implies something you aren't willing to do.

I think that definition of rape is too narrow. If someone says they will kill your husband (as has been mentioned before, ie. Robin's head on the chopping block) if you don't have sex with them. You would not define that as rape because there was consent? And if so, then the person who gave you that ultimatum has done nothing wrong - they had consent.

If someone says they are going to kill your husband if you don't sleep with them then that's blackmail. The person who blackmailed you is morally wrong in the first place. It may not be literal rape, but you certainly can't say the woman was consenting, not really.

I guess I would say that there is a category of sexual relations that is neither rape nor consentual. And I think that category is closer to rape than consentual sex, as you said not "literal rape", but not moral either.

 Spot on.

I do not see what marian did as anything having to do with sex. I don't categorize it as sex and therefore there is no immorality associated with her behavior.

Logically, what you're saying makes perfect sense. However, if I were Marion, I would not feel proud of what I had done. She was forced into a horrible situation, where she had to choose the lesser of two evils. Just because she chose the *more* moral thing to do does not mean that what she did was moral.

I don't know, I'm on the fence.

ETA: I suppose I'm equating having guilt to having done something immoral. Must be my Catholic upbringing...

Okay how about this- The sheriff insist marian cuts off her pinky finger and her will free them. How does that change her behavior as moral or immoral?

For me, that situation is much easier to judge. Marion would, of course, be the morally superior in that case. And I see what you're getting at - the situations should not be viewed any differently.

ETA: But how about this - the sheriff will release Marion if she kills Robin's cat.

Good ol' Catholic upbringing...I thought Vatican II was suppose to rid us of guilt

oh now this is a real moral delimma. When Marian acts she sacrifices herself, now she has to take an action to harm another (yes, I know its a cat :P ). I'm gonna have to think about this one....do you think this kind of problem every came up on the Brady Bunch?

You are the slightly romantic realist. You respect truth, and are broadminded and flexible. Whether you are a man or a woman you are probably a happy person. You like people and they can readily make friends with you. You are not very adventurous, but this does not bother you.
