You won't be allowed on an international flight or ship without a valid passport. You'll have to find some arrangements through your own Embassy or Consulate either to renew the passport or to get some sort of travel document that allows you to travel internationally.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Anybody with experience, traveling from USA to Europe with passport that expired...possible? My Embassy is so complicated,so I can't get a new passport, and I still need about 3 years to get a U.S passport...help!

Not only do you need a valid passport, you typically need at least six months before it expires in order to travel internationally. You need to go to your home country's US Embassy website to see how you renew a passport in the US. Most countries I know about allow you to renew in the US. Some allow you to do it via mail and others require you to visit the nearest Consulate or Embassy. If it is the Embassy, make plant to visit Washington DC for a short vacation and get your pasport renewed. Other option is it ask the airline you plan to fly on if they would let you board with an expired passport so you can return to your home country. If you find an airline willing to do that, you will need to see if the TSA will let you thru the check point (or if you have a valid US ID that matches the name in your passport) and if the US CBP will allow you to leave.

I would see if you can uncomplicate the process of renewing here in the US otherwise you will not be able to travel for the next three years.

Good luck,

Dave
