National Passport Center Mis-information line

Seems that CIS is not the only federal agency with a mis-information line.

I called NPC (National Passport Center- (877) 487-2778) today to confirm about what we needed to apply for my step daqughters' US passports. They are minors and became US citizens as derivatives through my wife. I pretty knew what we needed but I wanted to be sure.

This joker starts going through the requirements:

-application form (ok)

-kids' foreign birth certificate (ok)

-kid's passport with I-551 stamp or green card (ok)

-wife's naturalization certificate (ok)

and finally the kicker: -proof that my wife lived in the US at least 1 year before the kids were born. #######????

I said that there is no such requirement for children of naturalized citizens and he was adamant that there was. This proof of transmission I later realized is for Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA). Thuis dumba** didn't even know how to read the correct script.

Where do they find these people? With this kind of "quality" help available, no wonder immigration is in such shambles.

There are incompetent people wherever you go...not just with USCIS and National Passport Center.

Excellent job schooling that person!

I'll be applying for my wife's and stepdaughter's passport soon. I think I'll just print out the USCIS page stating automatic U.S. citizenship for minor children of naturalized U.S. citizens.
