On the instructions for the I-864 it says if using assets to supplement income they must equal 5 times the difference, 3 times for spouses and children of the USC. I (the sponsored immigrant) have 3 children, does this mean that our assets only need to equal 3 times the difference, not 5?

Thanks for your help

If the petitioning sponsor is your husband then yes. That being said, if using assets, they usually want to see you comfortably over, not just scraping by.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Yes, it is my husband. We have a difference of a little over $1000 between earnings and guidelines. Our assets and savings equal just shy of $40,000. Do you think we'll be ok? I have also included in my cover letter that I receive $2400 per month in child support from my ex-husband, there was nowhere on the I-864 to include that....I figured it couldn't hurt if the CSO reads that and considers it in their decision.

Thanks for our reply

Yeah with that much is assets (assuming it is easily liquidated, such as a savings account) you will be fine.
