My fiancé and I have been discussing if we should apply for the K1 visa now or wait, and would love to get some opinions.

We have not applied for it yet because he (the American) was only working 3 casual jobs all of which changed at the start of the year (lost one completely, changed companies for one and only just been promoted to full time for one). Now that things have settled we were going to apply for the visa, but we are also wanting to go and spend Christmas with him on the visa waiver. Last time I entered USA I was questioned heavily about entering the country with an infant twice in one year and I am worried about entering for a holiday while waiting for the visa application to go through. So we agreed today that it would probably be best if we applied for the visa while we are together in America (also give him time to build up his finances as the sponsor)...but that won't be until Nov/Dec and that seems so far away. what do others think?

1st USA trip - Dec 2010
Baby Girl born - August 2011
2nd USA trip - May-June 2012
3rd USA trip - Oct-Dec 2012
Engaged - 18 December 2012

Well I would say it depends on what your time frame is, I think it is pretty safe to expect at least 8 months before visa approval but more like 10-12 months. From the time it is approved you have another 6 months to use it. So if you send in your application now, I would think that by next April time frame you would have it. If you decide to wait until December to send it in, you will probably be here in time for Christmas 2014. So, if it were me, I would apply now.

As long as his 2012 income tax shows that he meets the minimum financial requirements, I would apply now.

I visited the US every month during our process, and was never questioned. Just make sure you bring solid proof that you will not stay in the US.

By the time you get to the interview phase, he should be more stable in his job as well.
