My wife became a citizen in Oct 2012 and immediately filed I-130's for her parents. They recently had their interview in Guangzhou, China and were asked about their membership in the Communist Party. I did not realize they were still members, and paying dues since they both retired many years ago. I helped her write a letter of explanation, and she has the opinion that they cannot deny the visa now that she is a US citizen. I know in the past Party membership was a show stopper, but she is convinced this has changed. We are currently waiting for a response to the letter, but have no timetable. Does anyone have any recent experience with this?

A visa is never guaranteed until it's in hand.
