Hi everyone,

I have been searching this site hoping to find out if someone has done the K2 visa for younger kids. My kids are 2, 8, 11.........I was hoping to read about someones experience with the K2.......One question I have , would you not marry if the father didn't approve of you leaving and taking the kids to another part of the world? Would you give up your kids to be with the one you love? How far would you go to be with the one you love? Hope to get some stories.

From one mother to another mother....I think first you should discuss with your fiance that the kids are your responsibility and he should accept your children as his own. This being the case, he should include the children in the petition as K2 (derivative visa). If he truly loves you, he should accept and take in as his own your children which is part of your package.

The matter of their father approving of the kids leaving the country is a matter you need to discuss with the kids' father because if he is convinced that your fiance can give the children a better future, then he would agree.

To share with you my story, from the very start I told my fiance that I have 3 boys who are teeners and can be difficult to handle but he replied that if I love the children and that if he loves me, then they should be with me or I would also be unhappy if I keep on worrying about them being left behind, and in the end, the marriage will be strained. So he decided to visit us and bond with the children, and then he decided that he wanted to adopt the children so he filed for a fiance visa and included them as k2 (derivatives). We got approved and are now waiting for our interview.

Sorry to say this but your children may not forgive you for leaving them behind.

In the Uk, is it not true that you only need the fathers permission, if you were married?

As far as Im aware, if you were NOT married, the father does not automatically have parental responsibility and therefore has no say.

I wasn't married to my son's father. He has never signed a parental responsibility form. BUT when I got to the London Embassy they told me they required a notarised letter from him saying that he did not object to my son immigrating to, and living in, the USA.

Luckily, my ex was all right about it and we got it done a few days later. My son was born in 1994.

When it comes to abusive relationships I have no idea if this would differ at all.

Thanks everyone for your input, I appreciate it very much. There were some very interesting answers to read.

First of all, my financé has accepted my kids as his own and wants to adopt them as his. Bonding with them will be happening as soon as he arrives here for holidays. So there is no issue about that. It would be indeed up to their father to give permission, and some good talks I suppose.lol.

Since I was married, I do have to get a formal parental responsibility form. Well, all of that is not my consern because I am willing to wait until the papers are ready.

One thing I want to make clear is that I would never leave my children behind and take off to be married and live far away. It was just a question, to here some stories.

Thanks again. I have my tumbs up!!

This has been answered before. Aussiewench had her first born when she was 4 years old. She is around 33 years old at this point (in 2006).

I too left my children behind but they were 19, 21, 27 & 29. If they had been your childrens ages, there is no way I could of done it. I would of expected my fiance to move to me and if not, regardless of how much I loved my now husband, I would of abandoned the relationship. I miss my grandchildren enough as it is :(

Good luck to you.

Reading through this thread, I almost fell off my chair when I read the ages of your children! You don't look old enough to have a 19 year old, let alone a 29 year old! All I can say is "whatever you're on, I need to get me some!" lol
