IV Package - Submitting Original or Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate

I am in USA, my Hubby is in India.

I just realized that I don't have extra original copy of our Marriage Certificate (issued in India). When I submitted I-130, I gave in the notarized copy of our Marriage Certificate, but what about for IV package. This is the only original copy of our Marriage Certificate I have and getting paperwork in India takes ages.

Can I submit notarized photocopy of our Marriage Certificate in IV Package - because I don't want the original Marriage Certificate to get lost.

And what about originals for other documents? Can I make make photocopies of these and take them to Notary Public so they notarize that these are true copies of the original?

I am really scared of the originals getting misplaced, especially the Marriage Certificate and Hubby's Birth Certificate.

Notarized copies are not "original or certified copies" for the IV packet. Only copies issued by the agency that issues those documents count.

You must send originals or certified copies from the issuer.

The NVC deals with thousands upon thousands of originals I bet almost all of them are returned safely to the beneficiary.

You need to send original, after case complete. NVC will send it to Embassy and Embassy will give it to your Hubby at the time of interview.

We did the same, no problem at all.

I've heard of them just photocopying the document and returning the originals. I have yet to read where they keep an original, but it's possible. It's just good sense to do the work vs the CO. I'd like to stay on their good side. :innocent:

Just stay relax.

My wife had also sent in the certified copy of all my documents with I-130, and i have just sent in the IV package with ONLY ONE EACH NOTARISED COPY for marriage certi, My Birth certi, NOT ORIGINALS. It has been reviewd and accepted though, asked only for PCC in check list.

Your husband will only need originals at the time of interview, and you have time for it and have 2 options. Either you can send that Marriage certi and Birth certi to ur husband before his interview date assigned Or tell ur husband to get another copies from local offices issuing those certies. But in your case, still your husband has to send IV pacakge so better you send those originals as soon as possible.
