I have seen in some of the signatures on this site that some of you have obtained your SSN prior to AOS or EAD. Is that still possible? I took my husband to the SSA after he arrived on the K-3 and they said that until he gets this EAD they can not give him a SSN.

Thanks for answering so fast, but why is it not possible for a K-3?

Because a K-3 is not authorized to work without an EAD card and SSA assigns work authorized SSNs based on the individual's work authorized status.

I never knew that! Well, you learn something new every day

john_and_marlene,

Point of clarification - prior to EA no, but prior to AOS yes.

A K3 does not need to apply for AOS in order to apply for EA.
