Hello all, we have been frequenting this great forum before and during the submission of our process and finally we decided to be part of this community and possibly help someone in the process. A little story about ourselves, I came to the US when I was 14 years old from Mexico on a tourist visa. As it happens in many situations, having family here influenced our overstay, as it was never planned. Being underage, I didn't have much say in the matter, although I am grateful about my parents decisions as I was able to obtain through hard work a good education and meet the love of my life. My now wife (USC) and I met in college and have known each other/dated for almost 6 years. We got married this past September 2012 and as many of you, we are deeply in love, therefore, we would like to share with all of you our case as we feel it may help others as well as ourselves.

Day 0

-2/7/13 - Mail packet (forms i-130, i-864, i-765, and i-485 ) through certified mail to the Chicago lockbox [When mailing we were stumped for a bit about whether or not to send package with a request for signature, we ultimately decided to do it without since either way we signed for E-notification]

-2/10/13 - USPS gave us delivery confirmation of delivery

Day 1

-2/15/13 - Confirmation receipt by USCIS through text and email at 12:01 am (Our first happy moment!!!)

-2/15/13 - Checks cleared

Day 5

-2/19/13 - Notice of Action [NOA] received at our address (form i-130, i-485, and i-765)

Day 9

-2/23/13 - Biometrics appointment letter received (At this point we stopped receiving E-notifications and website tracker hadn't shown anything)

Day 22

-3/8/13 - Biometrics taken (Arrived 30mins earlier than appointment and left 15 mins later after arrival, YES! before our appointment time :), as everyone says easy and painless). For those that are about to go, its is super easy, I filled out a form with my information and waited for the officer to call me. Once he called me in, he asked me my name, date of birth, current address (we live about 5mins from the office), and then proceeded with my finger prints, then he told another officer that he just realized I lived close to them and laughed haha, I was slightly confused about his joke but we moved on, he took a few pictures and we were done.

Day 39

-3/25/13 - Website tracker FINALLY gave us an update, and showed that our interview was set

Day 42

-3/28/13 - Letter to appear to interview received at our address (We are excited about this as we can almost see the finish line :), and like many say, since our marriage is completely legit we are not worried at all, a little nervous but its normal, right?)

Day 50

-4/5/13 - Website tracker updated for form i-765 being approved and Employment Authorization Document (EAD) was sent for production on 4/5/13 [super excited about this that my stomach hurt for 30 mins!, REMEMBER, I stopped receiving any E-notifications]

Day 55

-4/10/13 - Website tracker updated AGAIN for form i-765 showing EAD sent for production on 4/10/13 (while we feel a little upset, we researched this issue and seems like many have had that problem).

Now we are waiting for my EAD so i can apply for a SSN and finally get an Idaho drivers license and start working in my field of study :). We are waiting for the interview which is in about 2 weeks. More updates to come!

If any have questions we will try to answer them as quickly as possible. Nice to meet you all!

Topic has been moved from AOS from a family visa forum to AOS from a work, student & tourist visa forum as the OP is adjusting from a visitor visa and the process is more accurately addressed in this forum.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
