Hi everyone!

I came to this forum to see if someone can shed some light on this situation for me.

I applied for both adjustment of status (I485) through my wife and employment authorization (I765). We both reside here in the U.S.

Checking the case status online, several weeks ago, I noticed that the I765 (on initial review) was moving faster than the I485 (on acceptance) and it seemed normal to me. I did my biometrics about a week ago and this morning I received an e-mail saying the I485 is on the 'Testing and Interview' phase. When I checked the website it shows that the I765 is still stuck on initial review. My understanding of this is that the green card application is moving faster than the work authorization. Am I correct? I thought I would get the work authorization before the gc and it has not even been a month and a half since I submitted both applications (March 5th). Can the interview be for the green card itself?

I probably will find out through the mail but my curiosity got the best for me this morning.

Thanks for any input!

Over 10 yrs ago with an A-1 visa through my parents.

Okay, then I also hope you sent in a I-130? Without it there is nothing to base the I-485 on.

Once it goes to "interview" there is still time waiting while the interview is being scheduled. The EAD will be approved around 70-90 days after you sent it in, regardless of what your I-485 does. The applications are separated now. Usually the EAD comes first, but if your local office has openings for interviews, you might get an interview sooner than normal and get approved for the GC before the EAD is approved. A GC gives you the right to work and travel by itself, so if you get it first you don't need the EAD anymore anyway.

Thanks for the info! Yes we did file the I-130 and a couple of more forms as well.
