Hello fellow VisaJourneyest..

I have 2 questions:

1. So I am the stage of filling out the DS-260 and sending all the necessary civil documents (Birth Certificate, Police letter, etc). I know the civil documents need to be in English since my wife will be coming to US. When I filed all the paperwork to USCIS I sent an affidavit saying I was competent and knew the English language to translate and translated all the document's that were in Spanish to English. Can I do the same with all the documents that are required to send to NVC or do they have to be translated by a certified person?

2. So my process is currently CR-1 which will need some status adjustment. We are in the process of the DS-260 so her interview and entrance to the US will not be till after April 15th. We got married on April 15 of 2011 so on April the 15th 2013 we will have been married for 2 years. Doesn't that put her on the IR-1 since the requirements for the IR-1 is to be married 2 years? Do I have to call and notify them? Will it be changed to IR-1 or would the whole process need to be started since the current process is CR-1?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

~Ozzie~

1. You can do the translations yourself. Just make sure that you state that you are fluent in both languages and are able to do the translations. Technically speaking, if your documents are in the same language as the country you are interviewing in you do not need to have them translated, but I still had mine translated just to be on the safe side.

2. If you and your wife are married for MORE then 2 years when your wife makes her POE then your wife is entitled to receive the IR-1 (10 year card), but you have to TELL the immigration officers when your wife is processed at the airport. They will not give it to her automatically. Make sure your wife has a marraige certificate with her so that she can prove how long you have been married.
