i am in chicago do, applied with 5 year rule, and my interview is scheduled for 2nd week of april. i have generally seen chicago do applicants getting oath letter after interview or after some days. i am travelling in may end, and will needs visas to my travel countries.

so should i apply for the visas now, but then i will have to give them my current passport and what happens if they dont send back the passport wth visa before my interview. so i am thinking of applying for the visa on the next day of my interview if i dont get the oath letter on the day of interview.

what do you guys think of this?

It depends how long the visa processing takes (or is anticipated). If i were you, i would apply after the interview. From mid April to end of May is plenty of time to process. Who knows, maybe you could be done by the oath by then and travel visa-free with a US passport :D (unless you're going to a country that requires visas from US citizen!)

On the other hand, according to several immigration lawyers here, they say you don't have to have the passport at the interview. I beg to differ... BUT if this is the case, maybe certified copies of pages with entry/exit stamps will suffice.

Your post reminds me of somebody asking if a mechanic can fix his car and how much it would cost and how long it would take, but he forgets to mention what car he has and what's wrong with it.

So what is your country of citizenship, and what country or countries do you want to visit?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
