B2 Visa denial= VWP denial on entry?

I was going to be applying for my B2 visa this week, through all my research I learned that if for whatever reason my visa is denied, to not bother applying for a Visa under the VWP, because I will be denied entry to the USA at Border Control.

Is this true?

I will be visiting from Australia.

I have enough ties to prove that I will leave at the end of my visit- such as the fact that I am married, have three children (under four years of age). Only issues being that I am a homemaker.. and my husband receives his income through Veterans affairs as he was injured while in the army.. he was going to be sponsoring my trip, plus I have my own bank account in which $50 a week is put into.

I will not be staying in hotels, etc, but rather with my friends I am visiting.

I am honestly too scared to apply in case of denial, because I dont want to get there on the VWP and be denied at the border.

Do you need a B-2 visa?

If you apply for one and are refused it makes it extremely unlikely (although not impossible) that any ESTA application you make will be approved.

You must declare any such visa refusal in the ESTA questions when you apply for it.
