I moved to Canada and am at the end of the PR process there (probably about 2-3 months way from getting it done). Maintaining both will be tough to meet eligibility criteria on both sides - in an ideal world, I can delay this by about a year and work towards Canadian citizenship requirements, then figure something out.

It depends as well if my parents intend to move - they haven't decided yet. If they do move, I might be more inclined to follow through with the process and establish some residency in the US.

Ok makes more sense now. Well that is definitely a dilemma; having to choose and not knowing what the future holds.

Well for sure your I-130 was approved before NVC case number as that is the order. Did your partents not keep some sort of paperwork that could help figure out their approval date like their notice of action or anything that has the USCIS receipt date. With that you can call USCIS and ask to speak with a Tier 2 agent who should be able ( hopefully) to locate your approval date for your calculation.

best wishes in your decision.

My parents were very nonchalant about the whole process, so it's doing a forensic investigation to find out documentation.

The only other thing I have is a letter from the NVC New Hampshire office requesting fee payments ($440 each) for my parents AND myself, dated October 18, 2010 (for some reason, they neglected not to tell me that I was still listed at that time....).

Do you know where this invoice date usually falls in the timeline?

Because they knwo the wait for a visa number is foever and that the slower the are the better it is for aging out children they work these petitions slowly so years is not unusual. If your case number has 2005 in it then that is when it was approved. In 2010 you would still have been good but maybe not now.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Hey Newbie! Honestly VisaJourney is a guide and you should not relay on the information shared here. Look at the forms and manuals online, you can spend your time better by reading the forms and getting more familiar with your particular situation. "Taking time" is usually the wrong route because of the sensitivity of immigration cases.

I understand your parents took the first steps and dropped the ball. Now, you are old enough to take ownership and stop relaying on your parents steps. Immigration doesn't like people who procrastinate so get in shape buddy. Do what you need to do and do it Now.

If you've been in Canada long enough to continue there then follow that route. However, please read with your own eyes. Stop depending on peoples "knowledge" and build your own. Use us as a complement not a source.

Wow - I come here for an opinion and advice, on what seems to be a technically complex matter, and I get this. Trust me, I am doing my own research and trying to get up to speed on the whole process.

Your post is very judgemental. I am not "relying" on my parents - it was their application that I was included on (and told that I was no longer on it years ago - hence I blazed my own trail), so I am trying to figure it all out after the fact, 12 years into the process, with 3 days notice. I'm sorry for suggesting that I am trying to figure out how I time I have to figure this out, when I had all of 3 days notice on this. Obviously I need time to figure this out.

Did you really just accuse me of procrastinating on this? lol. You're ridiculous.

That's what I'm thinking at this point - if 2005 was the approval date, then I would be about 23 now based on the CPSA age - in 2010, by my calculation, I would have been under 21.

This is a forum open to opinion don't take it personal. I am not attacking you. Yes I am being judgmental... through my opinion, you take it as you want it. I don't know your background... so I am basing my opinion or judgement on what I am reading in this forum.

I had my own Visa case. I went to the USCIS website first, lawyer consultation then here. I am just giving you my opinion. Take it as you want it.

Wish you the best.
