Thanks all for your assistance so far but i have got some questions which i really need urgent help.

1) Do I need to wait for the approval letter before getting my police cert?

2)Do i need to wait for my approval letter before calling NVC for my case Number?

3) How long does it stay before the approval letter arrives in hard copy?

4)whats the content of the approval letter? ie does it specify anything we need to send to NVC or does it carry anything like identification number.

5)How long does it take for case to be closed at NVC

Your response will be highly appreciated.

This is from my experience:

1) My husband got the police clearance before I got the approval letter...I was getting ready for the NVC. Hopefully it won't be a problem. I didn't even think it would be an issue. I didn't know how long it would take for the clearance so I told him to do it even before we were approved. Hopefully it won't be a problem.

2) You don't need to wait but they can't give you a case number until they have enter your information that they got from USCIS which I think it can take up to 3 weeks, currently. I'm still waiting for my case number..going on 2 weeks on Thursday. I called about every other day, still don't have it.

3) I got my hard copy in 2 days. I got approved on a Tuesday and got the letter in the mail on Thursday.

4) The letter basically said the petition has been approved and is being sent to NVC. Wait 30 days to contact NVC.

No new number...just the receipt number you already have from NOA1.

5) Hopefully not too long but I believe it depends on how fast we pay the bills and send the packages (support and visa application).

Have you read the guides/wiki which states what documents needs to be send to NVC? If not, go read it and get your documents ready while you wait for the case number from NVC.

Good luck!!

If I understand you correctly? you are at USCIS level, right? if so, yes you will need to wait for the USCIS to approve you first. Then your case will be sent to NVC. You could call NVC in about week and half to get a Case Number and IIN. A hard copy of the approval from USCIS takes about a week or two and the same goes for NVC. The letter of USCIS will inform you that your case has or has not been approved and was forwarded to NVC. NVC letter will ask you to review the principle applicant's information and if there are any errors to contact them to correct it. It will also sent you the information on AOS/Affidavit of Support and how to pay your AOS fee. These can be done online if you have your case and IIN number before you receive the letter. Once the AOS fee is paid either via online or US mail you will receive a AOS receipt and the cover sheet with the barcode, which you must have to submit the AOS documents they are requesting.

How long does it take for a case to close at NVC level is a hard question to answer with precise time. It takes however long for the NVC to collect the appropriate documents from both of you and process it.

You could send your police report to the petitioner but keep in mind it is only good for three months and if the NVC is not done with your case by then, you will need to have another one done.

It is very crucial to make sure the documents submitted are exactly what is being asked for and it is in its full content requested. Make sure copies are made and kept. I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck!
