AOS Interview No Joint Assets help!

We're going to have our AOS interview in a month. And so far we don't have joint assets at all. We're going to try to open a joint bank account this weekend but I'm not sure if we'll be allowed to since my husband has bad credit. I also just received my EAD on December and have officially just started working this week. So we basically have no money at all to purchase even a family plan on verizon because we don't have to money to start anything just yet. We're also living in my aunts house, we pay her every month for the rent but there's no official lease or anything.

The only thing we can show USCIS is basically our marriage certificate, an affidavit from my aunt stating that we live in her house and is paying rent, mail that was sent to said house and pictures visiting his family and my family. Other than that we have nothing else. Would I get in trouble for that or should I start thinking up ways to get us anything joint right now?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Credit doesn't have anything to do with a bank account. Unless he owes every bank in the US. USCIS will understand that you are newly wed and therefore will not have many joint assets. Your husband doesn't work?

He does but he's paid minimum so there's really no extra money coming in for luxuries until I start getting paid

Hi,

Just wanted to update everyone. I went through my AOS interview and was approved really quickly. He asked us probably 2 questions. Why him/her? and who cooks? and the whole time the interviewer was just giving us advice on how to make the relationship last. (lol). Anyway, the only joint papers I had was a bank statement which we opened a month before the interview and a joint rental agreement (although we live with my family, I had them write a rental agreement for us since we do pay rent). Other than that I gave a bunch of photos, some tickets that we used when we go out and just some really random stuff tbh. He didn't even look at anything, just took a quick glance on the pictures and that's it. It was a really great experience and the interviewer was really really nice.

Thank you for posting your experience. I think Im in a similar situation, in that until I get my ead card we wont be able to do much of anything, hopefully we get it in time and i get a job so we can have some joint stuff. But in the meantime, your experience gives me hope. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Congratz . I am in a similar boat too, My interview is in 3 weeks and I have no received my EAD yet. Im not on the lease here because all the places we applied to together, people just were really confused on how to process my application with no credit and no SSN. ALso in the market for a new phone company, the last plan we had was just outrageous and we are tyring to cut down to one phone to share since we really dont use our phones too much.

Tried to get me on his bank account but they wouldnt do it until I had atleast a temporary SSN of some sort. So all I have is the life insurance, health insurance, joint taxes. And a few minor things. Nnone of the household bills would add my name either without the social security number. Sucks :/

So all i can do is hope and pray that what I have will be enough.

Your experience also gives me hope. I hope I have a good interview like yours. Again Congratz :)
