Well after some delays, I filed the I-130 today. Tic. Tic. Tic. The clock starts clicking soon, I hope.

The only thing I'm worried about is the supplemental info for the bona-fides of the marriage. She owns a house in China and has a job, bank account etc. I own a house in the US. How much co-mingling of finances do they expect while we're living in two separate countries? I sent some copies of the paperwork to add her as spouse/beneficiary for some retirement stuff.

Has anyone had their petition delayed over this issue? How else can I document this if they ask for more info?

I tried to set up a joint checking account, but it has to be notarized by a US notary and it's too much trouble to go to GZ just for a bank account. Thoughts? Advice?

It did not hinder us at all. They do not really expect you to have much of this at this point. It is hard to have co-mingling of financials when you live in two separate countries. This will come into play more during the ROC.

For now just get as much proof of relationship in other ways as you can. Multiple visits - with proof of travel, anything you can combine from this end or add her as beneficiary, communication records, receipts, etc.

Best of luck!! :star:

suggest you get her name on your utility bills, aye?

forget about banking stuff, the patriot act nixed that, and there are no joint bank accounts at the normal banks in China.

But - amass your evidence between now and DS-230 submittal time, as you'll want to submit it IN with the DS-230 when the casefile is at NVC.

Since you married last year - you might want to think about filing a 'married filing jointly' tax return this year WITH a W-7 included - is great bonafide marriage evidence, of financial co-mingling. Yes, you can do it even it she's in China and yer in the USA.

Darnell, I was going to get the I-130 filed and then think about taxes. In retrospect it would have been nice to include the IRS W7 to show co-mingling. I think that requires a notarized signature, which means a trip to GZ consulate.

I think I'll run turbotax twice, once as married filing separately and again as joint. She's already paid tax, so I guess we'll get credit for that. I'll post something once I do the comparison.

there are some other places besides GZ - My wife went to Chengdu, US Consulate, on ACS appointment, to get her bio page of her passport notarized by a Vice Consul there. I made the ACS appointment for her.

Also can do at Shenyang, BeiJing, Shanghai and of course, Guangzhou.

here's what I was able to generate a month after returning from the marriage trip, ages past: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218775&st=0&p=3324240&hl=Rusticentry3324240 .

We've been married for 5 years now, and when I filed in Oct 2012, the evidence pile was high. Since you're just married, don't expect the evidence pile to be so big when filing soon after the marriage - but generate what you can between now and NVC Doc Intake on the DS-230.

Good Luck !
