Hi all,

For the I-134 affadavit of support form they say that you have to provide certified copies of your tax returns, etc. Does this mean that the copies need to be notarized by a notary in the US or do they need to be authenticated for Nigeria? What have others who have been approved done?

Lets not mix up the issues.....Form I-134 needs to be notarized but copies of most of the supporting evidence will suffice. I think the lesson of Taye`s outcome is clear: Interviews are done on a case-by-case basis. What applies to one may not apply to the other....

But if you have the resources and time to get certified copies of documents, and it gives you some peace of mind doing so, then by all means go right ahead.

Personally, I made copies of tax returns from Turbo Tax stored on my PC.

Notarizing does nothing to certify the content, validity or authenticity of a document (such as a tax return), a notary simply attests to the validity of the signature.

YMMV

The reason I posted this was because of this information I read off of the VJ post for the I-134:

"To substantiate the information regarding income and resources the sponsor should attach two or more of the following items to the affidavit:

Notarized copies of his or her latest federal income tax return;"

So you didn't need to have yours notarized?

I think the real issue here is trying to decipher what "notarizing" your tax returns will do (in the eyes of the consulate). If they think it will certify them then that is wrong.

Notarizing tax returns ?

I am a notary and I am sure the site meant notarized I-134.

If you do tax returns yourself and your not sure if that will be fine,I would suggest getting in contact with the IRS asking for a copy from them directly.

There is a site for that, forgive me though...not sure where I seen it. ***removed*** or VisaPro.com,immigration.com......

If your appointment is too soon for that, Just have faith in what you gave and leave it in Gods hands.

Best of Luck............maybe they will not ask to see those forms !

Have FAITH !
