I'm kind of confused exactly what forms need to be filled out and how I should fill them out. My fiance isn't working at the moment and is going to college, can he still prove he can support me? If not, his dad is willing to sponsor me, which forms do I need and how should I fill them out in this case? My passport expires november 14, 2014, is it still valid to use? Thanks so much for the help.

Hello Samantha! Welcome!

So first of all, if you don't know anything of the process you should start with the guides: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

if you are going for a K1, follow this (it tells you what forms you need, when, examples to fill the forms, and what additional proofs to send.): http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

Important to know about the co-sponsors:

- not every embassy accept co-sponsors for K1 visa, even if your co-sponsor meets the requirement. (apparently they MUST accept co-sponsor that meet requirements for CR1)

- when the USC have no income, chances seem to be higher to refuse co-sponsor (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/402790-k1-visa-denied-public-charge-pretty-outraged/)

I would ask on the canadian forum to know the specifics of that embassy...

good luck!

Good luck in your visa journey!

I have heard that the US consulates accept co-sponsors (I hope so, as I will be using one). As for your passport, you should be ok. You need 6 months left on your passport at the time of your POE (when you're moving to the USA). So if you put in your paperwork in the next little bit, you should be fine.

Btw, what stage of the process are you in? You don't need the I-134 before the packet 3 or interview. so if you are just filling I-129F you don't need it just yet. But having information in advance doesn't hurt anyway good.gif

We haven't sent anything in yet, were just in the process of understanding the guides and forms and trying to fill them out properly and put everything together. Thanks for the info! We really appreciate all the help we can get!
