Hello all!

I just have a few quick questions in regards to proving evidence of support and I was hoping the knowledgeable people of this site would be able to help me :)

I'm in the US and my fiance is in the Philippines.

"You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form with original signature will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You should also submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included to substantiate the I-134."

I have the I-134 form completed. I have W-2's. I can get an employment letter and a bank statement showcasing assets. I'm aware that if you made the required amount during the past year that you don't need to show assets but I'm going to bring a bank statement to be thorough. I also can furnish paystubs. The only thing I'm iffy on is the Income Tax Return (1040).

Each year I e-file my Federal tax return (1040ez). I do this via TurboTax. After I file, they give me a document to save for my records. After a few days I receive a confirmation that my Federal Tax Return has been accepted.

My question is: Is my e-file document that is provided to me by an e-filer, sufficient to show for the Federal Tax Return? I'm aware that you can order transcripts from the IRS but I simply want to know if by any chance, I don't have the transcript from the IRS and only have the documents that I have after e-filing each year - Is that acceptable?

I hope that doesn't sound too garbled and is clear enough for others to understand me. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this :)

What you want is a tax transcript for each year. The IRS provides this.

Hi Dale_Trisha, thank you for your response

I'm aware that you can order transcripts from the IRS. If my fiance only had my e-file, would that be enough combined with my other forms of evidence be enough to convince the Manila office? Each year it's what I have when I e-file. So I have this packet of documents that show all my income. I can use it in the US for things fine, I'm just unsure about the Consular acceptance. Has anyone got by with their e-file documents (1040ez)?

I'm not sure if using efile documents will work. I wouldn't risk it. If you have an IRS office near you, just walk in and get copies of your tax transcripts. You'll get them handed to you right there and I've never heard of those not being accepted in Manila.

Definatly not worth the risk. You need the transcripts . Also there is a good chance she will be asked at the interview for ORIGINAL supporting documents .

I'm going to bring her all the original documents (W2, bank statements, employer letter). The 1040 was the only one that wouldn't be original. I only ask this because I have seemingly terrible luck with the post office where I live. Things are constantly getting lost, not arriving, things I send out get lost, it's just a mess. The closest IRS office is quite far away from me and it's not really a customer service type office. I'm going to order the transcript, I'm just thinking in the worst case scenario where the interview arrived and I wasn't able to obtain the transcript, if in the opinion of you all/those who maybe have tried, if it's been acceptable. Fingers crossed the transcript arrives. Thank you to all those that replied!

Your e-file document and confirmation should be fine by themselves. However, in my opinion, you should also send your tax transcript.

If you submitted only your e-file tax return and the confirmation and , for some reason, it was not accepted, you could email your fiancée your tax transcript and she could submit it to the Embassy via 2GO. However, that probably would delay her visa a week or two.

That being said, there's no reason you can't email your tax transcripts to your fiancée before her interview.

By the way, never send your immigration documents to the Philippines via USPS. Always use FedEx or another private carrier. You've been warned!

When you e-file with a service like turbo tax you get a bunch of papers youre able to save to your computer. Some are official tax documents and some are meaningless turbotax documents. You need to recognize which is which. The meaningless turbotax documents are things turbotax prepared for your records as a courtesy because you paid for it and will not be accepted by the embassy as proof of income or legitimate tax documents. They are things like a quick overview of what you filed, a general statement of what your income is, the date you filed, what your refund is etc. again, meaningless propaganda from turbotax.

In your turbotax packet there should be documents that are official tax returns. They will say Form 1040EZ 2012, 2011, 2010 or whatever tax year it was. Thats your tax return. If youre submitting a tax return and not a tax transcript you need to attach your W2s.

When you submit a tax transcript theres no need to attach W2s as the W2 information is detailed in the transcript. So since you would be submitting the tax return, you need to attach the W2s. You can also attach the statement saying youre return was accepted although it is not required (because if you had mailed your return, you would get no such confirmation)

So a tax return with W2s is acceptable or a tax transcript is acceptable.
