Hmmm this is interesting. Puerto Rico is a US territory, but if they don't pay tax to Uncle Sam I would think they would not be able to sponsor. Honestly, I don't know the answer here, but would love to know.

I have good news for you; it doesn’t matter if the taxes come from Puerto Rico.

The co-sponsor have to show his taxes papers in order to prove that his income is at least 125% of the current federal poverty line, and this applies for Puerto Rico to. I now for a fact that they will take the Puerto Rican Taxes as prove.

Off curse there are other considerations you have to take in to account, but that is after every individual case.

Good look with you visas.

^Thats correct.

But its also a little bit tricky.

Since the co-sponsor had no legal duty to file a Federal income tax return the co-sponsor must write a letter explaining why he had no legal duty to a file a Federal income tax return. He also would not check off the box that says (box 25) I filed a federal tax return each year)

BUT he is going to want to submit his Puerto Rican Tax returns as 'other proof of income'. They will be accepted and given a tremendous amount of weight.
