I am waiting for my NOA3 but I just read that I have to provide Military and Court Records. Can anybody help me with where I can get them from? I tried to Google for them but couldn't find anything relevant; I also had no court appearance. If might help, I'm from Toronto and I'll have my interview in Montreal.

Thank you your help and good lock to everybody.

For my Cdn military record I submitted--I forget the name of the document---but its the one that has all your courses and postings on it, very easy to get from the orderly room, plus I had my Commanding officer write a quick note stating it was an authentic military document (prob not required, its pretty much your military Resume. Worked for me and I know of 1 other Vj'er that used the same document and it worked

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You only need to provide court records if you have a criminal history (which the police check will indicate which you get from your local police), and military records if you are/were in the military. Court records are best obtained from the city/town of the convictions, and military from the military.

Thanks everybody for the answers!

1. For the Court Record, I understand that I need nothing, since it's nothing in my Police Record, right?

2. For my Military Record, since I wasn't in the military here, in Canada, do I need anything stating that there isn't anything? :)

3. I had some military training, back home, some 30+ years ago; do I still have to bring a (translated) record?

Thanks again!

If you have ever been charged in the past you do still need the Court records regardless of what you police check says, you would then also need the finger prints check done.

And by the sounds of it you came from another country and if at the age of 16 and over--if you lived there(or any country) for 6 months or longer, will require a police check by that country as well. And if its a country that doesnt get along well with the USA----quite often after the interview your case get further scrutinized, thus delaying the issue of your visa and paperwork. cheers

That’s your MPRR (Military Personnel Record Resume) your UER is a manila folder with a whole bunch of coloured sheets in it that your supervisor is supposed to update (but usually doesn’t).

Just adding this to the thread in case someone does a search.

For the OP:

Go here and change the country to whatever country it was you had service in and it will tell you whether or not your military and police records are available and how to obtain them: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9013
