Once i get approved do i need to wait for the greencard to travel or is a stamp in the passport enough?

I would like to travel home the day after i get approved and buy the ticket now interview is in 3 weeks.

if, you have a stamp in your passport 1-551 one year green card, then you can travel international.if you don't get the stamp then no you cant travel.

Your green card is not given at the interview; it comes 2-3 weeks later.

IF you do get approved at the interview (which only happens 50-70% of the time), you can request a stamp for imminent travel (which is not always given as they're trying to phase it out). If you get approved AND get the stamp, you can travel the next day.

However, this is a lot to bet on. I'd be prepared to change your ticket if necessary.

Incorrect. You can travel internationally while your AOS is pending if you have an approved Advanced Parole.

Legally I-551 stamp on the passport and the physical I-551 card are functionally equivalent. Both are proof of your LPR status. So, you can travel as a LPR on either. However, there is no guarantee that IO is going to approve your LPR on the spot. And, even if he does approve you, there is no guarantee that he would agree to stamp your passport evidencing your green card.

However, you can travel with advanced parole if you have one while your AOS is pending as long as, during your stay in the US, you didn't violate any immigration law or haven't committed any crime that makes you inadmissible.
