Service Request after 5 or 6 months?

So yesterday marked the 5-month mark since we've received our NOA1...and no NOA2. I am absolutely aware of the fact that it's currently taking 6-7 months for many people, but I had a question about following up with USCIS on a service request.

I know that after a certain period, you can request that USCIS looks into your case, if you are still waiting on the NOA2 after the standard time...

But is it 5 months or 6 months? I have heard both numbers thrown around.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks so much!

Good friends of ours took 10 months, no RFEs and he was military. Wait until about 10 months, 5 months is the average so that means some are earlier and some are later.

Right, but my question is at one point can you officially file a service request with USCIS...?

I'm seeing an average processing time of 5 months on the USCIS website for CSC.
