Are there any restrictions on travel while applying for citizenship through naturalization for current permanent residents? I am a permanent resident and my green card expires in about 6 months. I was going to apply for citizenship but I have a trip back to Australia planned for a few weeks next month. I don't want to run into any troubles getting back into the country once I leave. I know your passport has to have at least 6 months left on it to travel internationally but wasn't sure if this applied to green cards too. Also if I begin my application for citizenship, will this affect my travel plans? Thanks for any help

You can travel freely before, during, and after naturalization.

Once you have submitted your N-400, it will go bang, bang, bang, most likely in monthly steps though, so you can't really leave for too long.

If you want to leave for up to a month, do this exactly the day after you have mailed in your N-400. When you come back, biometrics is only a few days away.
