Hey guys!

Happy new year :)

I have a question I hope someone can answer, I am a USC and I am currently finishing up my husband's AOS package. He is from Greece where it is required of all males to serve an obligatory one year military service. He served his duty 6 years ago and fulfilled his one year requirement.

On the I-485 under Part 3C under present and past memberships, we did list that he was in the Greek Army and that it was obligatory.

Now, under the questionnaire following this:

Part 3- #15 a) "Have you ever served in, been a member of, assisted in, or participated in any military unit, paramilitary unit, police unit, self-defense unit, vigilante unit, rebel group, guerrilla group, militia, or insurgent organization?"

AND

Part 3- #18 "Have you ever received any type of military, paramilitary, or weapons training?"

Now, as we wrote on Part 3C under present and past memberships, we did state that he was in the Greek military, so he obviously was in a military unit and did receive weapons training.

On those above questions [Part 3- #15 a) and Part 3- #18] however, we checked NO since his military service was obligatory. Is that correct? Or should we check yes to both questions and attach a paper explaining that it was all obligatory military service training?

I checked NO because he had no choice but to serve in the military like I said and I don't want them to think he is some kind of crazy vigilante or guerrilla group guy lol

ANY help is greatly appreciated loves!

You must say yes. He WAS in the military, whether they made him or he chose to. If it makes you feel better to write a letter saying he had to join, then go ahead. But he is not the first male from Greece to apply for a visa.... I am sure they are well aware of their laws. In fact, it will probably be WEIRD to lem if you DO answer "no.".

As stated, you must answer yes.

You will be asked about it at the interview, but it shouldn't be an issue.

Ok we will do exactly that and attach a letter as well. Thank you so much for clearing that up!
