I want to do some prework while my husband is getting things closed out in England. If I can have most of the forms filled out and ready to submit after he gets here it should speed things up once he gets here---

I need to know what do we do first. I looked at the form I 485 and on it it asks for SS# and A Number --- do you have to have both, does that mean you apply for the SS# first and then apply for the EAD and The AOS at the same time -- do you need to get your Drivers Licence in order to get the SS#? All this is somewhat confusing when you look at the forms --- my Husband would like to get a job as soon as he can doing whatever we can ahead so we dont waste precious time.

I think the visa you applied for comes with a Social Security number.....

But....you don't need one to file the AOS papers....

Different states will have different requirements for driver's licenses. Go to your state DMV website and have a look....

Hi Cindy:

You just need the A# for the I-485 application. Your husband will be able to get his SSN as soon as he gets to the U.S. Just wait about 2 weeks after his arrival to make sure he's in the SAVE system before you go to the SSA office. I'm not sure if his visa automatically gets him a SSN or not.

You can apply for the EAD at the same time as the AOS, and you don't need a SSN for the EAD application either. Just write "none".

I believe in Washington state, you have to have a SSN card in order to apply for a Driver's License, but I'm not 100% positive (can't remember... it was so long ago).

You can have all the paperwork ready to go and mail it the day after he arrives to speed up the process and his EAD should be approved in about 2 months (give or take).

Any idea when he's arriving yet?

Good luck.

Your profile indicates CR-1/IR-1. There is no AOS, or EAD involved, they are applied in cases like K-3, or K-1 visa.

CR-1/IR-1 visa is an immigrant visa and generates a Green Card shortly after entering the USA, which authorizes work. If you checked on the DS-230 form that you will need a SS number one also should be generated and sent to you. IF a SS card is not generated all that is needed is to visit SSA office with green card and apply for it.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

no our profile does not state we are doing the CR-1/IR-1 --- we applied for a K3 --- got married, filed the 1-130 then applied for the I-129 under family unity act to get him here faster --- did not follow the 1-130 due to needing to apply for the i-601 so we are told that yes we do have to apply for AOS once he gets here ---

All I wanted to know is what do I do first --- so if anyone has done the K3 and then AOS, what do you do first --- having had been married prior to coming to the US --

Since your profile indicates CR1/IR1, the kind people who were trying to guide you provided information on the CR1/IR1.

Perhaps you want to start with the K3 AOS guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos
