still waiting after NOA1 - advice for things to do while waiting

OK, got the NOA1 on 10/24 and have not done anything, I am just waiting to hear about the next step. I was in Ecuador to be with my fiancée for 3 months July through October, and did not realize I needed a couple of things from her for the I129f petition which meant having to get her to Fed-ex the things to me. This time I go back in 3 weeks and will stay for about 5 weeks.

Is there anything that we can do while I am there to help prepare? This will be my last trip until I make the trip to be there for the interview.

Anyone on this forum in Ecaudor? I will be in Guayaquil and if anyone wants to meet us for lunch sometime that would be great.

I really do not like this waiting game and I am sure many others here struggle with this long distance problem and trying to learn patience through the process.

Thanks,

Wade

Brother Wade,

Take dozens of fotos together in every conceivable situation. If you stay or go various places, procure receipts with both of your names on them.

Because of your lengthy previous visit, you're in far better shape than most couples. However, leave nothing to chance and continue to collect evidence of a bona fide relationship.

Mrs. T-B. (a new ciudadana, except for the oath ceremony!) & I are both hungering to visit Ecu, but we can't in the foreseeable future. We're envious and wish you the best.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi,

enjoy your time together :)

I've just posted a response on another thread ... i'll copy and paste the relevant details:

If you asked for email notification, your petitioner should get an email saying that you've been approved in CSC - that's your NOA2 - the hardcopy will come in the mail later. It will be sent to NVC and you will get your packet 3 (mine was sent to my fiance as an email).

There are a number of forms that you need to send back as well as the following documents:

1. Police Check - check your fiancee's country's portal for details on how to do this. this can take several weeks from when you order it 'til when you get it. i know the australian one is valid for 12 months - not sure about ecucador

2. Any overseas police checks or checks in other languages + translation if necessary - this may take some time (I got mine done by a NAATI translator - google to get names/numbers and call around - my first quote was $75, i ended up paying $25) - you need to get the original as well as photocopies usually

3. Birth certificate - I didn't want to send in my original so I applied for a few original certified copies - this takes time.

4. Medical Exam - call and book an appointment - i booked months in advance; you can always move the appointment backwards if necessary. Be aware that if you want to avoid doing the medical for the AOS after you get married, you need to apply for the AOS within a year of this medical that you do in Sydney. It's also worthwhile checking the full list of vaccines required and getting the shots before you go so its covered under Medicare instead of needing to pay for it there.

5. Affadavit of Support - get together payslips/tax returns/cosponsors as necessary and the I-134 - leave this with your fiancee as she will need it for the interview.

also, if there are letters that she's sent you, any other evidence of your relationship (receipts, photos etc.) you may want to bring them and leave them with her for the interview. I was not asked for any of these things (even though i had it with me) but it's always better to be prepared just in case.

neither my fiancé nor i have ever been married so i'm not sure about all those details (divorce/child support papers etc) ... if that applies to you, you probably want to bring all that and leave them with her - check the packet 3 list of requirements. You may wish to prepare your second 'letter of intent' and sign it while you're there if you don't want to send that in the mail later.

hope that helps

Thank you very much for the responses, I was not sure about doing some things too early like the criminal check for my fiancee, the medical etc...

but maybe we can get a few things

I have many hundreds of photos of us together from my most recent trip but I was told by someone else recently that I need to change the settings on the camera so it displays the date on the photo. Is that really important? I mean I can easily photoshop a date on there so that is not really proof of the date we were together.

thanks again, I appreciate this group and the support offered here.

Wade

Go ahead and change the camera settings, but don't photoshop anything.

I've occasionally wondered whether GYE filers should pose together while holding an issue of the daily newspaper, like kidnapped hostages, to prove that they were where they said they were.

As long as you can provide a variety of fotos of yourselves together in different situations and clothing, you should be fine, si man.
