Hello all!

Quick question - for those of us who are down here in Ecuador, you probably know that recently (I would say in June or July) the national police changed the official police record procedure. Previously, when I had to get my visa for Ecuador renewed (and when my husband got his license, etc etc) we had to go to the PJ (policia judicial), stand in line for an hour, and present a photo that they would paste on the police record they would provide, after taking our passport or cedula number. Recently, however, I went to renew my police record (since they only last a few months) for my Ecuadorian residency, and the guys at the PJ told me that the only way to get it now was on the internet. I wasn't worried about it then, but I'm thinking - in the IV pack, I'm going to have to include my husband's police record. Now, I don't know how many of you have seen the new police records, but they're REALLY simple - it just has his name, his ID number, and a YES or NO, saying whether he has a criminal record.

Basically, I'm worried that this won't be enough - there's no date anywhere on the record, and it's just a simple print off from the internet. I went back to the PJ to ask if they could certify it somehow, and they said no. Any other Ecuadorian applicants worried about this? Thoughts?

Hi, I just checked the website and indeed, the form is super simple looking... I've never used it, the last time I needed my police record I followed the process you mentioned before.

I take it you're in Ecuador, right? By law this new form is valid, (decreto presidencial Nº 1166) My suggestion would be you take the form to a notary and make them put a stamp and signature on it. It's a simple thing, and it's not expensive at all, maybe $1, $5 max, depending on the city where you are, but I'd do it just to be safe.

I'm sure people with more experience will come and help soon tho, just my 2 cents trying to help.

Good luck with your journey!

Yeah, that's what my husband said, so I think I might try that... Another friend told me to maybe try an apostille? I'm not really sure what the benefits of that would be, but I would definitely rather have overprepared the paper than have not done enough and have them deny it.

I'll fix that ASAP!

And yeah, I'd assumed Guayaquil was the only option for the interview. I've had three friends go through Guayaquil for their interview and had everything go just fine, but looking at your timeline makes me nervous

It should make every GYE filer nervous. The following should be required reading for any Ecuador filer:
