Comments : Even tho I got my visa in September, I didn't want to leave the country until both my parents had visitor visas. So thank God, mom got her B1/B2 on October 10th and dad got it on October 28th. POE was Miami, landed November 1st at 5 am and ran to passport control because my connection flight was at 7:30 (I know, I didn't think it through). Gave the immigration officer my passport and envelope, he asked me to follow him to a room where I waited for like 45 minutes. Then a female officer came and made me sign a paper and took my index finger print.
I was able to go to baggage claim at 6:30 and made it to my gate on the nick of time!

Consulate Review: Guayaquil, Ecuador
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 28, 2013
Embassy Review : This our experience with the GYE consulate. Our appointment was set for 10 am, we showed up at 8:30 and waited together in line (quick shout out to Unipark hotel! awesome service, great food, comfortable rooms... totally recommended) When they called us, a guy from the consulate said we couldn't go in together, just me, so he made my fiance leave the consulate and wait outside "until he's asked to go in if required". I was about to freak out and break in tears! But I stayed there, waited for my turn. Make sure they give you the RED badge, not the yellow one.
So I went in, sat down and waited for them to call my name. They finally did and was called to the cashier window. The girl there was very serious, she asked the following questions:
-Have you ever been to the US
-When did you meet your fiance
-Does he have kids
-Do you have kids
-Do you have any brothers or sisters
-When did you meet your fiance (again)
-Write your fiance's full name
-Where do your parents live
-Proof of your relationship
-Has your fiance ever been to Ecuador
-Where's your fiance. At that point, I said he was outside because he was not allowed to go in. The girl told me to go get him, so I did. We went back to the same window and she said "oh you're back already? Go sit down and wait to be called again"
We went to sit down, and probably waited 10 minutes before I was called to window 1.
The girl who was there told me to lift my right hand and swear all I said was the truth. Then she took my fingerprints, asked if I had ever been to the US and if I had family members in the US. Then she handed me all my proof of relationship and a yellow paper and said the magic words "your visa has been approved"! My fiance asked if that was it, no more questions? and the answer was: Yes, you being here was my only question.

Suggestions:
-Triple check everything both on the pdf file available at the consulate site for the K1 visa interview and the info available here.
-Make sure you bring at least 4 5x5 recent photos.
-MAKE SURE the US citizen is there.
-Security people are actually very nice, consulate staff however aren't (sadly, it is our Ecuadorian fellows the ones who are not so kind or willing to answer your questions in a good manner, but I guess it is their job after all, for the American staff members, they were actually very kind i.e. letting me know I had been given a WRONG yellow badge and had been sent to a wrong line where I waited for 10 minutes, instead of being sent to the waiting room.
-If you happen to forget a photo or something, there are places across the street that will take your 5x5 pic (2 for $5 and 4 for $10) and they give it to you in 2 minutes) There are also copying services if you need an extra copy of something, an envelope or whatever.
All in all, it was a good experience. And most important, we got approved! Now we can get married and finally start our life together
I wanna thank Visajourney, without all the guidelines and experiences from the members who've been through this before, we would have been lost. If any of you has any questions about the interview, the medical or where to stay in GYE, feel free to send me a message, I'll be glad to help. God bless you all and have a happy journey! Ours is about to start!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
