So my wife and I woke up at 3:30am to be at the US Embassy in Manila in time for her 6:30 appointment today. After waiting what I felt to be a rather unusual amount of time once we were inside my wife's name was called over the intercom. The young woman at the window informed us that unfortunately the NVC failed to ship her paperwork to the Embassy and we'd have to reschedule for January. What annoys me most about this is that our original appointment was in January and it was rescheduled to the 17th of December and I even called and confirmed with the NVC that the paperwork would be there on time. I get to spend another few weeks enjoying the Philippines so it is not all bad news.

Well I guess you're in the right place IF you are forced to wait a few more weeks!

Were you planning on spending Christmas in the Philippines anyways? I have to admit I'm a little jealous!

Yes, Michelle and I had planned on spending Pasko with family in the province. We wanted to be back in the US for her birthday on the 1st of January. Now we will be spending a few more weeks here in Manila and we may have some extra time to spend relaxing in Catanduanes. Personally we are not too upset. Family back in the US though are a bit restless though as they are really anxious to meet Michelle and have been planning a late Christmas holiday celebration for us when she arrives.

Sorry for the minor dissappointed me though you already coumted it for a blessing which made me happy for you both... I was guessing the mix up was in the rescheduling from the original date... My question is were you the one who seek for december date after NVC had give you a january date? I ask because it appeared NVC failed to ship out your files as if they're sticking to the original date they gave you... Think it's better to stay with their given date to avoid confusion right? All the same goodluck on the next appointment while sending you compliments of the season!

Uncle Darnell Say

What? You not badger the Consular Officer (not the Pinoy/ay human) to pull the casefile up in SAFEFILE ?

Why not ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I would have thought the same thing had I not actually spoken to the NVC representative and told them about the date change and they confirmed for me that the files would arrive on time. Perhaps it was a matter of one hand not knowing what the other was doing. I'm not too upset, I do get to spend more time here in the Philippines and I always love being here.

As for the SAFEFILE, the young woman we spoke to was adamant that there was no way to proceed with the interview without the physical copies of the paperwork from the NVC. I am not sure how the SAFEFILE system works on their end, but we only submitted a couple of items by e-mail, everything else was physical copies since there was no electronic processing for the Manila Embassy available when we submitted our DS-230 and I-185.

ya, the entire casefile is in SAFEFILE. It's not solely used for EP, fwiw -

in fact, ALL casefiles are scanned at NVC, stored in SAFEFILE.

'the young lady we spoke to' - not a Vice-Consul, right?
