Also if you are making the appointment to try to get an interim EAD (after 90 days) it might not be possible. I'm not sure which center you're at or if they changed their policies but we tried 2 times in St. Paul and couldn't get it. My husband finally got his in the mail 4 1/2 months after filing and with a congressional inquiry.. ...

When making the InfoPass appt., select the option that says something like "It's been 90 days since receipt date and I haven't received my EAD" (I'm going off of memory, but it's something like that.) You'll end up printing out a sheet for an Interm EAD. Unfortunately they don't give those out anymore, BUT the officer will (or is supposed to) call up the service center, figure out why it's taking so long, and then give them a kick in the ### to get it done.

How did your appt. go? I find the people at the Seattle office nice, well, the couple times I've been there. The woman that was helping me the other day really wanted to help me and didn't try to get rid of me. She actually looked into my case very thoroughly and did what she could to help me.

Yeah, when I heard they no longer issued iEADs I was pretty peeved as well. We're both (my wife and I) stressing but I'm hoping my going in on Halloween jump started something. It's funny, my wife is actually stressing out more than me (even more than when we were getting her her PR card in Canada as well), you'd think she was the one actually going through this process. :)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm was drawn to this topic because I wanted to start preparing when my fiancee arrives here. I was hoping that once we get our marriage license, that she could apply for an EAD and being able to start working within a couple of months or so. But as I've been looking at many people's timelines - there seems to be a lot of people that haven't been able to work for 6 months or longer while waiting for either green card or the EAD.

I'm assuming the iEAD was the one you could apply for right after arrival, even before the marriage but it only be valid for 90 days, yes?

There are 3 things working here. The work auth you can receive at JFK valid until expiration of I-94, an EAD that you apply for upon landing which expires when you get married (i believe vs expiration of I-94) and the regular EAD you apply for after marriage in the case of K1 with or after applying for AOS.

Most feel the 2nd (EAD applied for prior to marriage) is a waste as it expires so quickly, and being that the regular EAD takes 3-4 months to receive normally, isn't that far out of a wait.

Steven - you can speed up the ability for Jinky to work by careful planning.

File for her social security number as soon as possible. About 2-3 weeks after her arrival.

Start compiling the AOS, EAD and AP petition packets now. Or at least familiarize yourself with them. It's not that hard and in some cases I simply pulled some documents from the K1 files over to my new files.

Get married as soon as possible. As soon as you have the marriage certificate you can file the petitions.

We've been fortunate thus far with EAD's. His first one came about 9 weeks after the NOA receipt date.
