Has anyone been to the AOS interview with an expired passport? Did you have any problems? Im asking because my countrys embassy is very slow in renewing passports by mail as if thats not enough they are known for loosing peoples passports so I cannot risk it thru mail no way!! Plus they are far away from me so going there needs some time and money which I dont have presently. Anyone with experince wit an expired passport during interview.

That should not be a problem, the rule is that your passport needs to be valid for the term of the original K-1 visa which is 6 months from the issuance of the visa, so in many cases the passport can expire before AOS interview.

I hope that make sense.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

If your passport is expired at the interview, the officer would often put the I-551 stamp on an I-94 or some other type of card. Since most offices don't give I-551 stamp at the interview anymore, it's a moot point.

Your passport may be expired at the interview; no penalty.

I did. I had no problem at all. Seattle was my DO.

I held on to it while waiting for my aos interview coz i didn't wanna risk going to the interview without it. It takes a couple of weeks for the Phil consulate to process it and send it back.

Hi, I had my interview on Oct 17th and I send my passport in the mail to get it renew so I could have a valid ID for my interview, well long story short, my passport did not come in time for my interview ( have not recieved it yet, I think it got lost in the mail or who knows) My interview did ask me for my passport but I expain things to him and he was very understanding, I was also happy that I had my I-94 because my interview kept it. I did not have any valid ID for my interview, but things work-out, I used my expired ID and I had to get permission to enter the building, it was no big deal, good luck with you interview and I hope that if you do mail your passport that you get it back and in time for your interview.

Good luck.
