For a K1 visa, would the following documents suffice for financial support:

Three recent pay stubs

A letter from my employer stating my salary on letterhead

A bank statement from my bank showing my balance and average balance for the past 12 months

In otherwards, do I need to also show my W2s and tax returns?

yes, it is required.

Required documents:

1) Employer letter

2) last year tax return (tax transcript may be required but not always)

3) Last 2 pay stubs

Recommended documents (not required):

1) Last 3 years tax transcripts

2) last 3 years W2

Optional (only if you need to supplement your income):

1) Bank statements

2) Property ownership

They will not issue visa without at least last year tax return or transcript.

Tax Transcripts are free from the IRS.

From the embassy:

6. EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT: Any evidence from your American spouse/fiancé(e) which will show the consular officer that you and members of your family who will accompany you will not become public charges while in the United States. Documentation regarding financial support can be in any form – preferably one year of tax returns, W-2s, bank statements, earning statements, letters from employers. PRESENTING ONLY THE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT I-134 FORM IS NOT SUFFICIENT. The I-864 form is not required for a fiancé(e) visa. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ukraine/895/pdf/K_Instructions.pdf

I had 3 years taxes-with W2's (AOS I used transcipts wich are less paper and easy to get), last 3 pay stubs, a letter from my retirement board on letter head and 3 months of bank statements showing direct deposit from the retirement board. The interview went fine with this information

YES, Kiev is going to want to see your tax return and/or tax transcript. When they say "any of the above documents" they REALLY mean "your tax return and any of the above documents"

FWIW Kiev will go by current gross income as stated on the I-134.
