Need EAD to apply for jobs?

My fiance wants to know if she'll be able to apply for jobs between filing for an EAD and receiving one. We know she can't start working until the EAD comes through, but can she start looking for jobs, telling potential employers that she can't start until she gets her EAD?

We're not to this stage yet (still waiting for NOA-2 on I129-F), but we're curious about the process.

Thanks!

Applying for a job isn't an issue, accepting a job isn't an issue, LEGALLY working and getting paid... Big time trouble!

So, the answer is yes, she can apply for job while she filing for her EAD. But to work legally here with her future visa status and immigrant status, the answer is no. Must have EAD to work, most employers will ask for proof of legal status and other things.

I can't see any harm in looking and hopefully you will find some understanding employers that will hold open a job until she gets the EAD and can legally work!

Absolutely! If she can find an employer who is willing to wait on the EAD (and SSN, potentially) then that's great! She should be wary of anyone who asks her to start working and then "they'll make her legit once she gets the papers" though - that would not bode well to me.

Happy jobhunting!
