Please i need guidelines. Am in Nigeria and my finance is California we agree to meet in Dakar Senegal to get married in Senegal and file K1 Visa to American Embassy there.. But i don't know the paper work we both need to go there with and where is the Marriage registry contact address is located in Dakar.. Please someone who have undergo which process or have information on how to go about it help me us.. Thanks

If you are going to get married you can not file a k1 visa. As this visa is for a fiance visa, and you bring your immigrant fiance to the US and marry them there. So you will need to look into filing a cr1 visa for spouses. Also if your fiance does not have residency in Senegal the petition can not be filed there it will have to be mail to the lock box in the US. Here is a link for you and your fiance to look over. If you dont have residency in Dakar, you will have to file in Nigeria. You will have to file a marriage visa, not the k1 if you get married.

It is the US citizen that has to file the petition for you. It is her legal residency that dictates where she must file from. If she does not have residency in Dakar, she can't file from there. Some countries, like Nigeria you cannot file from even if you have residency established there. I married in Nigeria and had to wait until my return to the US to file the I-130. K-1/K-3 and CR-1/IR-1 visa cannot be applied for in Nigeria and must originate from USA ( assuming USC is residing in USA). I think it is the IR-1 you will apply for since you would have been married less than 2 yrs, but it is the same form which is the I-130. All of the forms can be printed from the website Reese1 linked above. I would recommend doing some research here on VJ and the USCIS website, so that you can gather documents and evidence of Bona Fide relationship while USC is there to bring back with her. It will save you time and money mailing documents. There will be forms like the G-325 that you will need to fill out and sign because the original form with original signature has to be submitted with the I-130. Do your homework and it will speed up the process and help you avoid RFEs later on and make your interview process easier. Read up on VJ about front loading your petition. I didn't know about VJ when I applied and ended up with an RFE, but by then had found VJ and was able to front load my petition during the RFE process. God bless.

Why are you guys doing that? It seems like an extra step. Your interview will probably still be in Nigeria. Unless your going for a destination wedding I understand, otherwise I dont think there is any benefit in going to senegal to obtain your visa. I say this is case your guys are trying to escape the beast that is lagos.

O well, isn't there a residency requirement for you both to be able to marry in Senegal? Do people, I mean total strangers just move to foreign country and get married within weeks and stuffs like that? Just wondering if anyone knows how this can be feasible?

To marry there you have to post bans which introduces a waiting period. It also requires a certificate from the US embassy for the USC. But as everyone mentioned it is another step and in a way makes your petition harder because Lagos like pictures with friends and family. ( unless she is going back to Nigeria with you for the honeymoon )

We plan to do everything in Nigeria, but we aren't aware know that Nigeria Government require visa for any US citizen coming to Nigeria, and my fiance doesn't want to table her statement of account to Nigerian Embassy in States for security reasons, then plan change to meet in Senegal because US passport visa free to Senegal But now i don't know if this will work out for us when we get to Senegal? We plan to do the marriage there and file to American Embassy there.. Please sir put me through and what document we both need for this.

The people in the Nigerian embassy here are not 419 people. They will treat the data with respect. Also it she can blank out sensitive information like the account numbers. You can also send her a letter of invitation and she won't have to show her bank state to the embassy. Going to Senegal is not going to make things easier. There are things you both have to do there to get married. You will not file at the embassy there your wife will file by sending things in to the USCIS here in the states and eventually you will get an interview in Lagos. Are you better able to keep her safe in Nigeria or Senegal ? To have a decent chance of getting approved for the visa you need to show pictures of her with your family and friends. How did you plan on doing this ?

What is "doing everything in Nigeria ?"

1. A Nigerian visa for her is no problem and takes a few weeks.

2. There is no need to worry about her bank statements in a US embassy.

3. You are asking about DCF ( Direct Consular Filing ). Senegal is not on the list where you can do so. She will have to file in the USA.Research the countries for DCF here http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/immigrants_5254.html

Though you can do some work in Nigeria in the beginining but the bulk of the imitial forms and evidence is on the USC.

You can only file in Nigeria since that's where you live.

Invite your Fiance to join this forum and start reading/studying the process. Most of the questions have been asked and answered, especially for Nigeria. It's best that you Guys read as much as you can so that your questions are focused. It's a lot of work but you have the resource to help you here.
