Hello Everyone,

I have recently received a checklist from the NVC requesting the original marriage certificate.

Our original marriage certificate was sent to the USCIS in a response to an inquiry about our children petitions (USCIS asked for original or certified. I sent the original. I know I should have known better).

Our children cases have been approved and transferred to the NVC last month. I am not sure where is the original marriage certificate now, Is it still with the USCIS or is it included with the approval sent to the NVC ? How can I obtain the original marriage certificate so I can respond to the RFE?

I would very much appreciate any help.

As far as I know you will only get back those documents you sent to the NVC. I don't know what happen to documents sent to the USCIS.

from what i have read so far, it appears originals sent to USCIS are never returned but then your case could be different so give it a trial to see. only NVC receives originals of documents which they usually fiorward with your file to the embassy and are returned to the beneficiary after the visa interview. all the best.

GOD has been WONDERFUL!!!

Thank you all for your responses. I guess I have only two options: Get a certified copy from the issuing authority or try to have the USCIS return my original document which I believe is a lengthy process.

Thank you again.
